Jackson Terminal
and Control Tower
The Jackson County Airport opened their new facilities in 1962, featuring a Terminal building and an Air Traffic Control Tower that were State of the Art at the time. Recently, H2A experts undertook a comprehensive restoration and rehabilitation project focused on addressing the longstanding needs, including physical and functional challenges.
The rehabilitation included incorporating ADA compliance throughout the facilities, upgrading accessibility with a new elevator and enhancing restroom facilities to meet ADA standards. Work also focused on energy needs, including improving boiler and water heater systems, incorporating LED lighting and installing energy-efficient windows. Rehabilitating included addressing interior and exterior finishes, as well as modernizing the facilities.
This initiative by H2A aimed to not only revitalize the airport terminal and control tower, but also to ensure sustainable operational improvements for the facility's future.
Terminal & Tower before rehabilitation
This restoration began in 2023 and is still an ongoing project. It is anticipated to be completed in December of 2025. This restoration was vital to the Terminal to serve local commercial air travel.
The Jackson County Airport stands out with the terminal’s iconic barrel-vaulted roof. The rehabilitation of the Air Traffic Control Tower restored the appearance of the 1960 curtain walls. With the modern appearance, they project on the interior core of the now accessible Air Traffic Control Tower, which takes on a new identity while maintaining the historic form.
